I HEART brocolli!

My silly and sweet little girl LOVES brocolli, and I do mean LOVE! We were shopping one day, and Jana asked if we could buy some brocolli. We weren't in the brocolli section, so I put her questioning off until she finally said, Mommy, I am begging you! I want brocolli! Most kids beg for cookies or chips or candy, but my little one asks for ... brocolli!

Jana loves brocolli so much that sometimes she will eat only brocolli for dinner. I don't mean just a simple helping like you and I might eat. I could make the entire bunches you see here for dinner and Jana would eat it all! The girl loves brocolli!

This is a picture of her at the store after begging for brocolli. Rather than wait to get home to cook it, Jana decided to eat the stalks as we were shopping around the store. We got some strange looks from passersby, but hey- she wants brocolli, and I am not going to stop her!

Where has time gone ...?

WOW! I was just wondering where time has gone, and I look at my blog and I haven't written anything in one month! Time is slipping away too fast! I have some cute pictures to update in the next few days, and it supposed to be cold here this weekend so there should be some blog time this weekend!

The Case of the Missing Warts

For most of Jana's life she's had one wart on her finger and one wart on her toe. One day she decided to name them, so we've had Hannah the Hand Wart and Toby the Toe Wart for years now. Recently they both fell off like warts do.

This evening I was laying in bed with Jana getting her ready for bedtime and she became very teary-eyed and eventually broke into tears. I asked her what was wrong and a few times she shrugged, so I said, Jana is something bothering you? She said, Mommy, I really miss my warts and I want them to come back. Being the sympathetic mother I am, I found it very hard not to chuckle out loud and remained compassionate about the situation. We had a very nice conversation about warts, where they come from, and how they fall off and come back all the time.

At the end of the conversation I thought, man, in ten years she'll hate her warts and do anything to get rid of them! Oh, to be four and find friendship in warts again!

Cookie Face

We had the pleasure of having dinner with one of my best friends on Wednesday. She is building a new house about 10 minutes from me- I couldn't be more excited! We drove out on Wednesday to see the final construction on her house since she closes next week. At dinner, she bought a cookie for Jana as a surprise, and as you can see Jana really liked the cookie! After all, what girl doesn't dig a chocolate chip cookie after a hard day at school?

A New Coat Would Make Any Girl Happy ...

Jana got a new jacket on Sunday at a sale at JCPenney. Not that I am cheap, but I hate to spend a lot of money on Jana's clothes because she outgrows things so quickly- and at four she just plays hard in her clothes. But, one thing Grandma taught me is everyone needs a good winter coat.

Jana likes this one because she calls it her "Cheetah Girls" coat. She loves the Cheetah Girls movies and music. I know this coat is warm ... on day one of wearing it she took it off at school and her skin was burning up! Now, living in Texas, do we really need that? Any bets on how many times she will wear this heavy winter coat?

What Is In a Weekend Anyway?

This weekend was so fun for me, I can hardly stand it! On Saturday I spent the entire day with Toastmasters friends, some long-time friends and some of my newer friends I've made as Area Governor to seven fantastic clubs.

One of my best girl friends is currently serving in a Top Three role for the District, and she asked me after her election if I would serve as her mentor. Having been her campaign manager in her successful bid for LGM I simply couldn't say no. After all, we had worked so closely together to get her elected, I felt responsibility to help her deliver the results we spoke with our membership about. It has been a true blessing getting to know her so well and watching her passion for the organization I love grow and grow.

This weekend she had a conflict with her professional association's conference, and she asked me to represent her as LGM at the conference. It was somewhat bittersweet to speak to the membership on her behalf. I was extremely active in Toastmasters before I had Jana, and after I had Jana cut back on my commitments to Toastmasters significantly. As I was telling my mentor at the conference, it seems with me and Toastmasters you either love me or you hate me. So, it was interesting with so much having happened in the past to be representing a Top Three office again.

Of course, our LGM is so smart, so organized, and so efficient, my presentations on her behalf went off without a hitch! It was fun to give awards again, to present marketing results to the membership, and to update the membership on what great things our LGM is doing. It made me slightly nostalgic, but then I snapped out of it quickly. One thing I did realize that day is my Toastmasters friends are the friendships that make me happiest-- professional women and men who seek to better themselves in leadership and communication. Good people, all (well, OK ... most!)

You might be wondering what Little Jana did while I was at my meeting. She spent the morning with her best friend's family and they had a very fun picnic in the park by their house. Her daddy picked her up after lunch and they spent the day together. After they went to a friend's house for the evening, and I picked Jana up late in the evening. She was definitely glad to see me, and she fell asleep on the way home, so I didn't get the chance to say goodnight to her.

This morning we woke up and Jana eagerly helped me clean the house to get ready for her best friend to come over today. Her best friend's mom was treating her husband to the new James Bond film, so we got the absolute pleasure of spending the afternoon and evening with Jana's best friend. Don't tell her best friend, but I also suspect Mom and Dad did some Christmas shopping for her while they were out. We played at home for a while (mainly, baby school, Jana's favorite activity), headed to the park because today was an awesome day of cool, sweatshirt weather, but bright and sunny without a cloud in the sky. I always say, weather like this is why I choose Texas! The girls were feeling so photogenic it was fun to snap pictures of them being funny and cracking each other and me up. It is probably the first time in their four year friendship they posed for pictures and smiled at the camera together. It is usually one smiling and one complaining, or neither of them smiling and both complaining!

After playground time we headed to dinner and then off to shopping. I was crazy enough to take two four-year olds to a department store! Besides doing things typical four year olds would do in a department store (let's just say, "Girls ... inside voices ..." came out of my mouth more than once) they were very good girls, as always.

Her best friend went home about 8:00 and off to bed we went. It was a great, great weekend for everyone!

Li'l Divas ... A Little Girl with a Big Dream

Isn't life really about dreaming big? Have you ever dreamed big, then made a plan and watched your dream come to fruition? Jana has a BIG DREAM! She decided she is going to try out for Li'l Divas in two years. Li'l Divas is the dance company at her dance studio for the younger dancers. It is competitive, it is intense, and boy, is it expensive!

Anyone who knows Jana's genetics knows dancing in our families is, well, let's just say we leave those kinds of things to the professionals. Remarkably, Jana is a very good dancer. She follows her instructor very well and she has the intensity and focus it takes to be a Li'l Diva, not to mention a sheer love of dance. But, she does still have her parents to thank for her coordination, or lack thereof! I am so excited for Jana's dream. It is fascinating that a four year old can dream so big, but I know she can do it with lots of hard work, practice, and commitment ...

Jana has a recital coming up in a few weeks, and she said to me last night, "Mommy, XXX more weeks before I am on the stage again." Makes me wonder if the dream of Li'l Divas is really about "stage time."
